Bianca Vezzani

Biography

I obtained my European Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Development at the University of Siena, in collaboration with the Stem Cell Institute Leuven (KU Leuven), focusing on skeletal muscle homeostasis and perivascular niche. During my postdoc at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine (University of Edinburgh), I investigated the perivascular niche by characterizing the impact of adipose tissue (AT) processing on perivascular cell composition and secretory function. I pursued research in AT biology in the Department of Medical Science at the University of Ferrara, primarily focusing on the pro-inflammatory effects of obesity. As a researcher in the Department of Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma, I investigate the molecular physiology of obesity and the role of AT in aging, developing a novel integrative approach that combines traditional 2D culture with 3D organoids to recapitulate the complexity of adipose tissue in vitro. As a postdoc in IBP at UMN, my research aims to combine the developed 3D organoids with sophisticated molecular and structural biology analyses and with in vivo approaches to study the interaction between adipose stromal cells and nerves in the modulation of neuroimmune inflammation in obesity and aging.
